The 4Cs

Understanding Diamond Quality

When choosing a diamond engagement ring, understanding the 4Cs of diamonds — Cut, Colour, Clarity and Carat — is
essential. These four characteristics determine the beauty, brilliance and
value of a diamond.

The 4Cs grading system was originally
developed by the Gemological Institute of America and is now used
internationally by leading grading laboratories such as the International
Gemological Institute.

At Elysium Diamonds, we use the 4Cs to ensure every diamond meets an
exceptional standard of quality, brilliance and craftsmanship.

0.50 ct — 5.2 mm
Delicate and classic. A highly popular size for everyday wear or minimalist settings.

0.75 ct — 5.8 mm
Noticeably larger than a half-carat. It offers a great balance of finger coverage and a delicate look.

1.00 ct — 6.5 mm
The iconic milestone. It has a classic, timeless presence on any hand.

1.25 ct — 6.9 mm
A great "under-the-radar" size that punches visually like a 1.50 ct but saves you even more budget.

1.50 ct — 7.4 mm
Serious finger coverage. This size sits beautifully as a substantial, eye-catching solitaire.

1.75 ct — 7.8 mm
A premium size that looks nearly identical to a 2-carat stone to the naked eye.

2.00 ct — 8.2 mm
The "New Normal" for lab-grown diamonds. This is the most popular upgrade size because lab pricing makes it highly affordable.

2.50 ct — 8.8 mm
A massive look with incredible brilliance. This size will completely dominate the finger.

3.00 ct — 9.4 mm
Showstopper territory. At nearly 10 mm wide, a 3-carat diamond turns heads instantly and requires a sturdy, secure setting.

3.50 ct — 10.0 mm
A rare, ultra-premium weight. You hit the double-digit millimetre mark here, offering jaw-dropping scale.

4.00 ct — 10.4 mm
Exceptionally large. At this scale, any minor colour or clarity issues will be amplified, so prioritise F+ colour and VS1+ clarity.

4.50 ct — 10.8 mm
A true statement piece. This is typically reserved for custom, high-end jewellery designs.

5.00 ct — 11.1 mm
The ultimate collector weight. A massive, luxury-tier rock that covers a huge portion of the finger.
